Dental Implants

An Excellent Way to Replace Missing Teeth

Living with one or more missing teeth can affect the overall look and feel of your smile. It can also lead to a variety of oral health issues, including potential bite and jaw joint problems and bone loss in the jaw. Dental implants are the best way to avoid these oral issues and get your smile back thanks to these natural-looking replacement teeth.

At Annex Dentistry, we focus on providing safe, permanent implants to restore the strength and appearance of your original tooth. Dental implants typically look completely natural and function exactly like permanent teeth.

Did You Know?

– Even people who have no remaining natural teeth can benefit from implants.

– Implants can help prevent gum disease.

– Dental implants can be a good option if the tooth loss is recent.

– Implants can help you preserve your facial structure as well as maintain healthy teeth stable.

– Implants can help replace a single tooth or several more.

– We often recommend implants as a way to secure a full set of removable dentures for people who have no natural teeth at all. When compared to wearing only dentures, this can greatly improve chewing ability and reduce the risk of choking.

How Do Dental Implants Work & What are the Costs?

A dental implant replaces the roots of teeth. The implant attaches directly to your jawbone forming a secure, long-lasting bond. After about three to six months, when the implant has fully healed, we’ll attach an artificial tooth to the top of the implant.

The result is a natural-looking, undetectable replacement for the missing tooth. If you have more than one tooth missing, several implants can provide a base for a series of artificial teeth known as a fixed bridge. Of course, a single implant is also a viable solution for just one or two missing teeth. Regardless of the type of implant provided, this procedure ensures long-term success thanks to its durable materials.

When you visit Annex Dentistry in Toronto for a dental implant consultation, we will talk through your options with you, help you decide if dental implants are the right choice for you, the costs of dental implants, and use the latest dental implant technology to determine the exact number, size, and shape of the implants you need.

The Dental Implants Procedure

How Do We Install Dental Implants? Our Process

Here’s what you can expect during your dental implant process at Annex Dentistry:

Step 1: Thorough Evaluation

The initial phase starts with comprehensive dental exams (including X-rays and 3D imaging) and prepare models of your jaw and teeth. We also review your medical history. A bone graft might be needed in some cases before an implant is possible.

Step 2: Dental implant surgery

Dental implants are installed via surgical procedures done in stages, with a healing time between procedures. The implant usually goes where the tooth or root of the tooth used to be. A temporary denture can be placed to enhance appearance if needed. A titanium post and gold implant are then positioned, and the jawbone is given time to integrate and unite with the dental implant essentially locking the prosthetic tooth into place. The final surgical phase involves attaching the final abutment which can be a crown or a dental bridge or denture depending on the scenario. In the end, we ensure a painless and secure implant placement procedure.

Step 3: Healing and post-operative care

After the surgical procedures, our surgeons may prescribe antibiotics and pain medication to accompany the healing process and make sure you are always safe and comfortable. We also advise patients on what to expect at every stage of dental surgery and how to handle complications. Proper aftercare will also be a key part of this process as well as booking the necessary follow-up appointments until the process is concluded.

How Long Will It Take to Have Dental Implants Installed?

The entire procedure of having dental implants installed takes time and it varies based on factors like materials used, procedures required to prepare you, time it takes to heal, as well as each patient’s individual needs.

Are Dental Implants Painful?

We use anesthesia or sedation to control pain. We also prescribe medication for controlling any pain experienced after the procedure.

Implants vs. Dentures

Dental implants are the closest thing to regrowing your natural teeth.

They are strong, stable, durable and virtually undetectable. By filling gaps left by missing teeth, implants can provide better chewing ability and head off jaw joint problems and stabilize your jaw bone. In all those ways, they are far superior to removable dentures.

Implants

Dental implants are made of titanium, which is compatible with the human body.

Are stable, functional, and work just like real teeth.

Look just like real teeth and help prevent the jaw bone loss that often results from missing teeth.

Help prevent potential bite and jaw joint problems and even bone loss.

Initially require surgery and time to heal, but ultimately feel natural and promote gum health.

Never need to be removed, and provide a durable, permanent solution.

Initially more expensive than dentures or fixed bridges, but ultimately save time and money by avoiding future health complications.

Dentures

Dentures are often made of plastic and other materials that can irritate your gums.

Can slip around in your mouth, making eating and chewing difficult.

Can look natural if they’re well-made, but living without a more permanent solution can lead to bone loss and the “sunken face” look.

Don’t address most of the health risk associated with missing teeth.

Can be uncomfortable and often irritate gums long term.

Need to be removed regularly for cleaning, and can be easy to drop or misplace.

Have a lower cost up front, but often result in future jaw and gum problems that cost money to fix.
